Colombian
Balkan Beat

The world's only live fusion of Balkan accordion with Colombian folklore over EDM and House. A show that exists nowhere else.

The Concept

Something The World
Hasn't Heard Before

"I wanted to see what would happen if we blended the Balkan accordion with that flavor only Colombia has — and wrapped it in an EDM atmosphere."

— Jay Maya

Colombian Balkan Beat is not a genre blend. It is a complete reinterpretation. The same accordion themes Colombia knows, played with the technique and attitude of an Eastern European festival musician — Balkan ornamentations, Gypsy phrasing, Serbian energy — applied to Cumbia, Champeta, Currulao, Andino and Llanero rhythms.

The result is wrapped in a live EDM and House set that turns the performance into a full festival experience. Not a DJ with a violin. Not world music with electronic effects. A new genre, built from the ground up, that can only come from Colombia.

Jay Maya's vision is explicit: to bring this sound to Tomorrowland, Ultra Miami, EDC Las Vegas, Sónar and Coachella — and let the world discover Colombian folklore through the language of electronic music.

Questions

About the Show

What is the Colombian Balkan Beat?

Colombian Balkan Beat is Jay Maya's signature live show: the world's only fusion of Balkan accordion with Colombian folklore — Cumbia, Champeta, Currulao, Andino, Llanero — wrapped in EDM and House electronic music. A cinematic live experience that exists nowhere else in the world.

Is this show available for international festivals?

Yes. Colombian Balkan Beat is designed for international festival stages. Jay Maya targets Tomorrowland, Ultra Miami, EDC, Sónar and Coachella. The show is fully scalable from a duo to a full production with string quartet, dancers and live DJ set.

How long is the show?

The standard show runs 60 minutes in 4 progressive acts: a classic rock flashmob opening, classical strings with European folklore, cinematic soundtracks, and a full live electronic set. The show extends when the audience demands more.

What makes this different from other live shows?

No other artist in the world combines Balkan Gypsy accordion technique with Colombian folklore rhythms over a live EDM set. Jay Maya is in the same international category as Lindsey Stirling, Hauser, and 2Cellos — but with an identity that can only come from Colombia.
